San Luis Rey Downs Golf & Country Club, is a Resort, 18 hole golf course located in Bonsall, California.
San Luis Rey Downs golf course first opened in 1963. The course was designed by William F. Bell.
San Luis Rey Downs golf course is a 6,750 yard championship eighteen hole golf course layout that winds through the heart of the San Luis Rey River Valley. From the elevated first tee to the rising par five finishing hole, this par 72 course has a genuine, natural appeal. The course demands strategic positioning from tee to green, to avoid hitting some of the many beautiful Eucalyptus trees you will find on the course
San Luis Rey Downs Golf Resort is a tight test with water on six holes and about a half-dozen doglegs. Accuracy and being able to shape golf shots both count big here. The golf course is tougher than it looks on the card, which has five par-3's, five par-5's and no consecutive same par holes on the back nine.
Blue tees: par-72, 6,750 yards, course rating 72.3, slope rating 128.
White tees: par-72, 6,365 yards, course rating 70.5, slope rating 125.
Red tees: par-72, 5,493 yards, course rating 72.1, slope rating 124.
The 51 year old course closed in 2014. Reports say the land has been sold and the new owners will use it as a land bank exchange investment turning the land back to wetlands under the land bank program.

This is an older course, early fifties. Lots of trees. Needs much TLC, but due to water restrictions and dry climate fairways are certainly not lush. Greens are normally well tended and fast. Great staff. Very attentive to your needs. Attached motel/hotel now closed (SHAME). Pool goes wanting. Course is not easy. Many dog legs and trees, as well as water on a few holes. Price is right.

Spent the Labor Day weekend playing Friday through Monday. Great place for a golf vacation. Not a 4 diamond hotel but comfy and convenient. Not overcrowded.

Any course you play that has recently punched greens will be a little frustrating. Fairways a little rough and tall trees are a problem if you are not hitting the ball straight.Price is acceptable and they have a nice dining area with great views of the course. Staff is pleasant and helpful.

A Classic river bottom course. Tree lined fairways. Little "rough" because the trees are difficult enough. River runs through the course. Long par 3's; fast but fair greens. To score well keep the ball in the fairway and be able to work the ball both ways. Only issue is when heavy rains roll through the area the course will flood. Otherwise one of the best kept secrets in the County. Clubhouse is very cool; lots of TVs and a great place to watch sports after your round. Food is good and staff is excellent. Is destination worthy with both rooms and condos. Has a pool and tennis courts with a rural feel. Relaxing and challenging but fair golf.

I only play this course a couple times a year for the county Senior League play. The layout is alright but it has it's problems in the closing front nine holes due to poor drainage. If htose things get ironed out the course is a worthu test of golf for all levels of ability.

One of biggest secrets in San Diego area. Course layout is excellent. A wide variety of holes requiring every type of shot. Greens are alway in excellent condition--fast and smooth. Some fairways have problems due to San Luis Creek flooding during winter, but rest of course makes up for 2 poor fairways. Price is excellent and course easily walkable. Extremely tough Par 3's from back tees.

A very straight forward golf course, with tree lined fairways, and a river runs through it that has a habit of grabbing your less than GOOD shots. Best and longest par threes in the entire area of San Diego north county. A challenging what you see is what you get golf course,,,Good test of your golf game...

The course has a good challenging layout although there are more doglegs than the average course. Course has many trees so you must stay out of trouble. The course condition is suffering from lack of maintenance or from the fact that we are in a mandatory water conservation. Either way, don't expect pleasing fairways to hit from.

This could be a great course but it lacks maintenance and care. Many fairways have large areas of hard pan and a nice straight drive is penalized. Greens are fair but often get dry areas. Play can be slow and there is a lack of marshalls willing to move people along. It appears that the owners are unwilling to put the money into making this a quality resort. The golf pro and the pro shop employees are fantastic and will always help out if you have a conflict. So much potential not being utilized at this course.
